This is a "mini" workshop tailored to your needs.  If there are particular aspects of Kunekune Pig keeping that especially interest you or if you aren't sure whether pigs are the right fit for your farm, your time with us will be well spent.  Enjoy a tour of The USA Herd, learn through hands-on lessons and demonstrations presented by Lori Enright, Founder of the American Kunekune Pig Registry, and get all of your questions answered.

The short course can be arranged for a "one on one" lesson or for small groups.  Refreshment or small snacks will be included.  Times and dates by appointment - Saturdays or any day of the week are available.  No Sundays.  Early mornings are preferred during the hot summer months.  $50 per hour, 2 hour minimum, includes snack and educational material to take with you.

DAY COURSE - Kunekune Pig Keeping

This is a "one day" course that runs from 10am until 4:30pm covering everything you need to get started in Kunekune Pig husbandry.  Topics will include:

Choosing Seed Stock or Meat Pigs

Breed Standard



Health/General Care

Handling/Injections/Identification Methods

DAY COURSE - Kunekune Pig Breeding

This is a "one day" course from 10am until 4:30pm covering all topics related to breeding.  This workshop will give you what you need to get started in producing animals for improved seed stock, show stock, and/or meat pigs.  Topics will include:

Goal Setting

Selecting A Boar

Estrus Detection/Mating


Piglet Weaning/Piglet Care


Day Courses are $150 per person, minimum of 5 attendees.  Price includes morning refreshment, lunch of Kunekune Pork, and educational materials to take with you.  Half price for youth 16 years and under - none under 10 years - sorry!

The main instructor for all courses will be Lori Enright, Founder of the American Kunekune Pig Registry.  Mrs. Enright is most known as the premier steward of the breed, pioneering the way for the Kunekune Pig breed in America and Canada, having the longest running breeding program in North America, establishing the American Foundation Herd Book and leading the path to preservation, improvement, and promotion of the breed.

The Grazing Pig

Kunekune Pigs are the only breed of swine known to fatten on grass with so very little needed in the way of supplementation.  Their wide head, dished face, and short, upturned snout speak to their ability and tendency to graze rather than root.


True preservation can only come through utilization of the animal as food creating a demand in perpetuity.  True Kunekune preservation can only come through an understanding of correct Kunekune type which speaks to their purpose as a grazing pig.....
